Mumbai: A 16-year-old boy with a history of criminal cases was detained on Saturday after he vandalised a government bus with a sword in broad daylight in Mumbai’s Bhandup area, according to media reports.

The incident, caught on camera, showed him screaming and violently damaging the bus on Tank Road around 3:10 pm.

According to reports, the teenager was furious after being reprimanded by his uncle, who had accused him of theft.

In a fit of rage, he blocked a Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus, threatened the driver at swordpoint, and verbally abused him.

He then smashed the windshield and several windows of the bus, causing damage estimated at ₹70,000.

A nearby water tanker and an auto-rickshaw also had their windshields broken.

The boy was taken into custody and sent to a juvenile remand home.

During police interrogation, he admitted to losing his temper over the argument with his uncle, according to Lokmat Times.

Following a complaint by the bus driver, Dnyaneshwar Rathod, the boy has been booked under multiple charges, including criminal intimidation, use of dangerous weapons, and criminal force.

Sections of the Damage to Public Property Act and Arms Act have also been invoked. Police said the teenager already faces several cases for causing hurt and attempting to provoke a breach of peace.
