Chennai/IBNS: The Tamil Nadu government has postponed the reopening of schools after several parents expressed their opinions against the resumption of normal classes amid the Covid-19 pandemic, media reports said.

The schools for classes 9-12 were scheduled to reopen on Nov 16.

The fresh dates will now be decided and announced by Chief Minister E Palaniswamy, state Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan said.

Before postponing the reopening, the state government had taken consent from parents after facing criticisms for resuming the normal classes.

The meetings with parents of government, government-aided and private schools were held on Monday.
