Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya, a dance recital program staged in Kolkata

Kolkata May 21 (IBNS):Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya, a dance recital program by Satabdi Acharyya dance production company was staged at a city auditorium on Friday.

The show was hosted by Mitrayan, in association with Bikramshila and Gaudiya Nritya Bharati.

“The concept of Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya is based on the importance of the journey from darkness to light as it is often confronted in the pages of Upanishads and in the works of Rabindranath Tagore, as well as in the works of Salil Chowdhury and Hemaga Biswas,” said  producer Satabdi Acharya , while talking to IBNS.

“Our primary focus behind this dance is not  just meeting with the sun after dispelling the darkness of night. Rather here light (sun) is being personified with knowledge, new ideas, new beginnings, hope, creation which lies deep beneath the human soul and always starves for the right path and right destination, bursting out of the prolonged darkness(night)," she added.

The dance style of Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya included Gaudiya Nritya with a touch of Kuchipudi and Kathak, various folk dance forms of Bengal, Japanese folk dance and contemporary styles.

The Chief Guest present on the occasion was Om Prakash Bharti, Director, Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC), Kolkata.

“It has been a matter of honour, the way Gaudiya Nritya has been used in the presentation. I am proud to mention that this particular dance form has not only got its place across India but also outside the nation.”

The entire programme was presented with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
