Radhika, others exhibit their creations in Kolkata

Titled 'Mapping Detours', the exhibition displayed the works of various international artists including Radhika Agarwala, Viraag Desai, Mathew Tom  and Garima Thakur.

For 'Mapping Detours', Agarwala, has created a six foot long drawing ,'Sleepwalkers Collison' where the artist has depicted painstaking ,erased ,intricate lines in graphite crawling from different directions which reminded visitors  of a topographical mapping system in which hybrid vultures, swans, owls, and other creatures jostled together.

Speaking on the painting, Agarwala said: "These birds are symbolic to ideas of home-calling."

"I am interested in the concept of beauty and filth and how they unite together," the painter, who returned to Kolkata after six years, said.

An artist in residence in  Austria and Turkey and also been invited to  Serbia and America to teach and make art over the winter this year, her other works which painting lovers in the city could see in the exhibition include a creation titled 'Afternoon & Night Flurry'.

"So far, I have got good response in the city," Agarwala, who has graduated from Goldsmiths,University of London and exhibited her paintings in the UK and internationally, said.

Inaugurated on May 17, the exhibition will continue till June 16 in Kolkata's Chitrakoot Art Gallery.
