Kolkata/IBNS: Eminent performing artists from Kolkata, including Padmashri Usha Uthup and national award winning actor Rituparna Sengupta, recently participated at an annual fundraiser program in the city to raise awareness about paediatric cancer.

The fundraiser was an initiative of the Rotary-Rotaract Life Beyond Cancer (LBC).

International Childhood Cancer Day is observed on February 15 every year to raise awareness about childhood cancer, and to gain support for children and adolescents with cancer, the survivors and their families.

According to Partha Sarkar, Chairman, Cancer Awareness and Prevention Committee, Rotary International District 3291, “It is important for cancer survivors to have access to resources and support to help them adjust to life after cancer. This may include physical rehabilitation and therapy, support groups, and financial assistance programs.”

Sengupta, who is LBC’s brand ambassador, said, “Overall, working towards the cause of cancer is a collective effort that involves everyone in the community.”

She later performed a dance recital with Anjali Roy and Preeti Kuiri and children who have survived cancer.

New-age music duo Sourendra and Soumyajit and the inimitable veteran singer Usha Uthup too regaled the audience.
