How Indians are responding to their love for mother tongue? ShareChat has some metrics

Kolkata/IBNS: More than 30,000 UGC (user generated content) got created across 8 Indian languages with #MyMotherTongue #LoveMyLanguage ahead of the International Mother Language Day on Feb 21, according to social media platform ShareChat.

The posts received 25 million views and were shared over 2,00,000 times on WhatsApp. About 2 million users engaged with the posts with likes, comments, favorites etc., ShareChat said in a media release.

International Mother Language Day is celebrated on Feb 21 since 2000 inspired by the language movement in Bangladesh. The day was first recognized in November 1999 by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and later it was welcomed by the UN General Assembly in 2002.

 

In Bangladesh 21 February is the anniversary of the day when Bangladeshis fought for recognition for the Bangla language and it is famously known as Ekushey to commemorate the 1952 killings on this day in Dhaka during the Language Movement.

India, being a nation of 22 official language with over 6000 dialects, remain relevant to the core of International Mother Language Day.

ShareChat, India’s own social media platform, is available in 15 Indian languages. The platform celebrated mother language with #loveforlingo this Valentine’s Day. The platform has witnessed immense excitement among the users and have poured in their love for their mother tongue.

Hindi

More than 3500 (user generated content) got created that received 4 million views and shared over 40000 times on WhatsApp. About 150000 users engaged with the posts with likes, comments, favorites etc.

Tamil

More than 2000 (user generated content) got created that received 4 million views and shared over 25000 times on WhatsApp. About 100000 users engaged with the posts with likes, comments, favorites etc.

Telegu

More than 1000 (user generated content) got created that received 0.5 million views and shared over 5000 times on WhatsApp. About 30000 users engaged with the posts with likes, comments, favorites etc.

Punjabi

More than 3500 (user generated content) got created that received 1.2 million views and shared over 15000 times on WhatsApp. About 150000 users engaged with the posts with likes, comments, favorites etc.

Gujarati

More than 2000 (user generated content) got created that received 2 million views and shared over 18000 times on WhatsApp. About 90000 users engaged with the posts with likes, comments, favorites etc.

Malayalam

More than 5000 (user generated content) got created that received 3 million views and shared over 10000 times on WhatsApp. About 120000 users engaged with the posts with likes, comments, favorites etc.

Kannada

More than 2000 (user generated content) got created that received 1 million views and shared over 10000 times on WhatsApp. About 50000 users engaged with the posts with likes, comments, favorites etc.
