Diksha hosts sit and draw workshop in Kolkata

Kolkata, Aug 15 (IBNS) Around 30 children from Diksha, an organisation supported by CRY - Child rights and You, attended a sit and draw workshop at the Oxford Bookstore in Kolkata.

Artist Debasish Deb facilitated the workshop and also spent some quality time with the children to inspire them.

The theme of the art workshop was Freedom to Healthy Start, emphasizing the importance of the first five years in a child’s life.

Talking about this workshop, Atindra Nath Das, Regional Director (East), CRY – Child Rights and You said, “Working with children for more than three decades, we have realized how crucial the first five years are for a child. Lack of access to services, insufficient care for mothers, little awareness and sensitization leads to many children missing out on the crucial care and attention needed in this phase, which might result in permanent damage to child’s development. The issue needs immediate intervention. This workshop is our attempt to sensitise the children themselves and people at large about the importance of the first five years in our lives. For CRY, this Independence Day is about the pledge to ensure a healthy start to the children of our country.”

Artist  Debasish Deb facilitated the workshop and guided children as they were pouring their heart out with colour crayons and pastels on white papers.

He said, “Childrens’ paintings are the first-hand expressions of their own stories, their trials and triumphs, agonies and ecstasies all mingled with vibrant colours of their dreams, pure and unadulterated; and it is through encouraging them to speak their heart out through forms and colours we can lead them to the spirit of freedom. This is the best way we can celebrate freedom to a healthy start.”
