Guwahati/IBNS: Amid a surge in the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the state, the High School and Higher Secondary Schools in Assam are all set to reopen from Sept 21.

The schools in the state will reopen for classes 9, 10, 11 and 12 students from Sept 21 by maintaining COVID-19 protocols after a gap of six months.

Assam Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, the state government has already issued Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to reopen the schools.

“There will be 50 percent attendance of teachers and the students of Class 9, 10, 11 and 12 will attend with permission from their parents,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

According to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the Secondary Education Department of the Assam government, classes for the students of grades 9 and 12 will be conducted on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

For the students of grades 10 & 11, classes will be held on Thursday, Tuesday and Saturday.

“For every class, the student is less than 20, then division in batch will not be required. For every class the students should be divided into 2 batches, of course, when in any class, total number of students should be divided into 2 batches, if less than 20 students the division in batch would not be required. First batch of students will attend classes from 9 am to 12 noon. The second batch of students will attend classes from 1 to 4 pm," said in the government order.

"Total number of teaching and non-teaching staff should be restricted to 50%. Heads of the institutions will be in touch with Health authorities for regular random checking, testing of the teachers and students on weekly basis covering maximum 10% of the teachers and students in the given date,” he said.
