Ontario/IBNS: The sixth edition of the annual Oakville Diwali Gala raised funds of over $140,000 in support of  Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH).

The Gala was held at the Lakeshore Convention Centre in Oakville, southern Ontario, in September, and attended by over 400 guests.

This year the theme was Lights, Camera, Auction.

Guests, on arrival, had to face a group of paparazzies taking photos and asking quirky questions -- an event which generated a lot of good-natured fun and left the visitors guessing about the rest of the programme.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in his letter to Oakville Hospital Foundation (OHF) extended his warmest greetings to everyone attending the Diwali Fundraising Gala for supporting a worthy cause and making a difference in the health and well-being of  fellow citizens

Mary McPherson, CEO Oakville Hospital Foundation, said,  "The chief aim of this festival is to benefit the expansion of the surgical program and putting essential equipment in the hands of OTMH caregivers and giving patients access to new surgical procedures to facilitate them with optimal patient experience."

Rekha Sharma, Chair, Oakville Diwali, quoted former US President, John F.  Kennedy, "Ask not what your country can do for you, - ask what you can do for your country," and said to guests, "With your support and our efforts, let’s make patient experience more pleasant."

Apart from the welcome accorded to guests on arrival, the Gala also included many fun events such as "Pop the Balloon" (with gifts for the winner) and  "Live Auction" for a chance to win an adventurous trip, etc.

The celebration of Oakville Diwali in a Bollywood meets Hollywood style evening presented performances by Canada’s leading Bollywood Dance Company, Broken Dance, who have made quite a name with their choreography.
