Harare, Mar 18 (UNI): At least 82 people have been confirmed dead in Zimbabwe due to flooding and landfall caused by the tropical Cyclone Idai, local media reported on Monday.

A group of ministers and officials arrived in the eastern province of Manicaland to asses an extent of the damage and a level of assistance needed.

The cyclone hit neighboring Mozambique on Friday, killing at least 66 people.

A day after, as Idai spread to Zimbabwe, President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared a state of disaster in the affected areas.

According to the country's Information Ministry, at least five bridges have been either swept away or submerged in water as a result of the cyclone, hampering search and rescue operations.
