West Bengal: 36-ft dead whale washes ashore in Mandarmani in East Midnapore

Kolkata/UNI: A gigantic 36-ft dead whale washed up on shore in Mandarmani in West Bengal 's East Midnapore district on Monday.

The cause of the death of this whale, which bore injury marks on its body and tail, is yet to be ascertained.

Officials from Mandarmani Police Station and Forest Department are at the spot.

Experts are investigating the cause of the death of the big mammal, which is endangered schedule-I species under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 in India.

Last month, a 40-ft-long critically endangered whale was found dead in the Gahirmatha marine sanctuary area in Odisha.

The mammal also had injury marks on its body.
