UK: Spider presumed extinct discovered in Nottinghamshire

Nottinghamshire, Oct 5 (IBNS): Beware arachnophobes! A spider presumed to be extinct was found in the UK's Nottinghamshire nearly after 50 years, reports said.

The discovery was made by two trust volunteers on heath land at Clumber Park, Worksop, a BBC report read.

Upon close inspection, experts revealed that it was a diamond spider, last seen in the UK in 1969.

The volunteers who made the discovery have been identified as Trevor Harris and Lucy Stockton.

According to Stockton, she was thrilled after discovering that the 'extinct' spider was still alive.

She was quoted by the BBC as saying, "The spider ran away from me twice but with persistence and some luck I caught it. Upon closer inspection our spider had a conspicuous cardiac mark, a black diamond shape on its abdomen, edged with white that helped us to identify it."

The spider is only 7mm (0.2 inch) in diameter.
