Strong quake rocks Greece and Turkey, kills 2

Athens/Ankara, Jul 21 (IBNS): A strong earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter Scale hit Turkey and Greece on Friday morning, killing at least two people and injuring 200 others, reports said.

The two people were reportedly killed on the Greek island of Kos, after a ceiling collapsed in a bar.

The port of Kos also suffered significant damage, officials said.

Turkey’s disaster and emergency management presidency (AFAD) said that it observed 20 aftershocks across Turkey and Greece following the mainshock at 1:30 am on Friday.

At least 120 people were injured in Greece and around 70 people in Turkey.

The United States Geological Survey said that the epicenter was 10km south of the Turkish resort of Bodrum and 16km east-northeast of Kos.
