Startup Matri brings period pain relief device, scales reach through Amazon
Kolkata: Women can now deal with period pain with a device designed to tackle cramps, without medicines or side effects, claim the makers of the product.
Founders of Matri, engineers Roni Mondal and Rohan Roy, designed the device aimed at addressing a long-ignored issue in women's healthcare.
Launched on Amazon in 2023, the brand is now reaching women across India, including in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities where access to menstrual wellness remains limited, according to a press release.
The idea for Matri took shape in 2016 while the founders were still in college, prompted by the lack of solutions available to women suffering silently from menstrual pain.
What began as self-funded prototyping became a registered company by 2020.
Selling on Amazon allowed the bootstrapped startup to extend beyond its own website and tap into the e-commerce platform’s customer base.
Amazon’s initiatives like Launchpad and Saheli helped the brand improve visibility and credibility, particularly through verified reviews and reliable delivery.
Beyond products, Matri actively works to challenge taboos surrounding menstrual health. It promotes open conversations through body-positive campaigns and real user stories.
The startup also runs awareness drives, distributes menstrual cups in underserved areas, and partners with NGOs and schools to promote menstrual education.
Looking ahead, Matri is expanding into broader intimate and wellness care, continuing to use Amazon and direct-to-consumer channels to scale its impact.
The company says its focus remains on providing inclusive, science-based solutions without stigma.
