Save trees from porcupine attacks with jute bag coverings: Dir Horticulture

Srinagar: The Director Horticulture on Sunday urged the farmers and fruit growers to cover the trunk of apple and almond trees with jute bags, HDPE bags, wire mesh to avoid trees from getting attacked by porcupine and other animals.

Earlier there has been reports that some wild animals, porcupine have wreaked havoc on orchards and fields in Pulwama damaging vegetables, eating barks of apple trees, almond trees While taking notice of the reports Director Horticulture, Ajaz Ahmed Bhat said that people are advised to cover the stem of trees with used cloth, jute bags, wire mesh or HDPE bags also.

"We are also looking for other methods to avoid the attacks," he added.

"Will also ask intervention from wild life department,” he added.
