National Green Tribunal issues contempt notice against Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

New Delhi, Apr 27 (IBNS) : The National Green Tribunal on Thursday issued a contempt notice against Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, reports said.

The notices were issued after a contempt petition was moved against the spiritual leader for holding the Government and the green panel  responsible for the damage caused to the Yamuna floodplains.

A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar issued notice to Sri Sri and sought  his reply before May 9.

Sri Sri Ravi shankar had blamed the government and the NGT for permitting AOL to hold the World Culture Festival and said his foundation had obtained all necessary permissions.

He said the event could have been stopped in the beginning itself if the river was so "fragile and pure".

In a petition against him, activist Manoj Misra claimed that the statement made by the Art of Living founder 'interfered with the free and fair dispensation of justice'
