Manipal Hospital trains Gariahat hawkers in CPR, heart disease awareness

Kolkata: Manipal Hospital Dhakuria recently organized a training session for the Gariahat Hawkers at the hospital premises to share insights on the symptoms of heart diseases and stressed on early diagnosis

The session was led by Dr. Pradip Bhowmik, Consultant Cardiologist, Manipal Hospital Dhakuria, where around 40 hawkers were also guided by the expert nursing team about the CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation).

The event was held on the eve of Emergency Day, May 26, which coincided with Hawkers Day.

CPR is an emergency treatment, provided when someone’s heartbeat or breathing has stopped.

The training is among the crucial trainings that can save lives during a cardiac arrest.

The nursing team demonstrated the training with the help of volunteers and mannequins for a thorough knowledge of CPR.

Dr.  Pradip Bhowmik, Consultant Cardiologist, Manipal Hospital Dhakuria, said, “Early diagnosis of is the key to prevent the chances of heart attack. Routine screening is must after the age of 40-years. Avoiding smoking, junk food, and including moderate exercises along with healthy diet is vital for a healthy heart and early treatment of blood sugar and hypertension must be done.”

Dilip Roy, Hospital Director, Manipal Hospital Dhakuria, said, “Hawkers form an integral part of the city and delivery system, thus CPR training must cover maximum people.

"It is our aim to reach masses and every section of people to educate and train them for emergency CPR care. Our dedicated team of doctors, nurses & staff have played a crucial role today in providing the CPR training. We will continue to carry this endeavour in future.”

The one-and-a-half-hour session was concluded with handing over of the training completion certificates and emergency kits to the participants.
