Kashmir witnesses snow in upper reaches, rains hit plains

Srinagar, Dec 10 (IBNS) The Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir over the next 36 hours till Sunday morning as the Valley experienced heavy rain from Thursday morning.

"There is much chance of rain in the plains and snowfall in the higher reaches in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 36 hours," said MET office in Srinagar.

"Light rain started in the morning in Srinagar city and there was some respite from bitter night cold because of cloud cover during the night", said MET office in Srinagar.

Meanwhile, Mughal road in Jammu and Kashmir was closed for traffic early this morning following fresh snowfall, officials said.

The vehicular movement has been closed due to fresh heavy snowfall at Peer Ki Gali, said a senior police official.

“There is about two feet snow in Peer Ki Gali stretch, as movement of vehicles is not possible in such conditions,” he said.

Gulmarg, also receive snowfall early this morning; reports said road connecting ski resort of Gulmarg was closed after snowfall.

Tourists were delighted to witness fresh snowfall at Tangmarg and were seen throwing snowflakes at one another.
