Shopian: Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishya on Friday chaired a meeting to review the landslide prone areas in the district.

The meeting was attended by ADC Shopian Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani ,DFO,ACP, all tehsildars, all BDOS and other concerned.

DM had a detailed review of the landslide prone areas and asked the concerned to identify such areas and plant trees on roadside of landslide areas to prevent the soil from being eroded.

He also asked the concerned to intensify plantation drives in secretariat and other offices which will help to keep the environment safe thereby preventing landslides.

He also asked the officers to conduct rallies of students to generate awareness among the masses about the importance of plantation for the survival of mankind.

He also stressed upon the need for close coordination among different departments in planting more and more trees to achieve the set target.

Plants and trees clean our water, soil, and air — making our environment a safer and healthier place to live.

"Our health starts with the quality of the air we breathe and the water we drink, so it stands to reason that our health is closely connected to our environment," he said.

While trees are often recognized for providing us with oxygen, they don’t get enough credit for also filtering the air we breathe.

Trees remove harmful pollutants from the atmosphere, including carbon dioxide, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, and fine particulate matter.
