India reports 62,538 cases, 886 fatalities in past 24 hours

New Delhi/UNI: India reported the highest single-day spike of 62,538 Covid-19 cases during the past 24 hours while 886 people succumbed to the disease in the same period.

The overall cases have now surpassed the 20-lakh mark, reaching 20,27,075, whereas the death toll has mounted to 41,585, Union Health Ministry said in its daily update.

Currently, 6,07,384 cases are active pan-India, while more than double -- 13,78,105 -- have recovered from the disease.

The active cases witnessed a surge of 11,883 cases.

Meanwhile, as many as 49,769 patients were cured in the past 24 hours.

As 6,39,042 samples were tested on Thursday, the national positivity rate was recorded at 9.78%.

Till now, 2,27,88,393 samples have been tested for Covid-19, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research.
