New Delhi/IBNS: India, which has been badly-hit by the Novel Coronavirus pandemic, added close to 61,000 fresh infections on Tuesday.

With new 60,975 infections in 24 hours between Monday and Tuesday mornings, the Covid-19 tally has touched 31,67,323.

The country of 1.3 billion people has reported 848 deaths in the same period taking the overall toll to 58,390.

While 66,550 Covid-19 patients have recovered in the last one day day, 7,04,348 people are still infected with the contagion across the country.

Meanwhile, the phase two human clinical trial of the Oxford Covid-19 vaccine candidate will begin on Tuesday, inching one step closer to develop a remedy to the deadly virus.

The second phase trial will be conducted by Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII), which has partnered with British-Swedish pharma company AstraZeneca to manufacture the vaccine developed by the University of Oxford.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day speech on Aug 15 had said three vaccine trials are underway in India and the country will begin production of the remedies once the scientists give a nod.
