Guwahati/UNI:  The COVID 19 positive tally in Assam has touched 24 with eight new cases confirmed on Friday.

Except one, all other patients are linked to Nizamuddin Markaz event, state Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Four new cases, all associated with the Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi last month, were confirmed this afternoon.

Four more cases were confirmed later tonight.

Among the latest cases confirmed, the lone case from Kamrup (metro) district has not been linked to the religious congregation at Nizamuddin Markaz yet.

The other seven new cases, comprising three in Nalbari, and one each in South Salmara, Kamrup, Golaghat and Morigaon districts, have been traced back to the Nizamuddin Markaz, the minister informed.

Golaghat district has the highest number of cases in the state with nine patients so far.

The three patients of Nalbari who were confirmed today were staying at the quarantine facility at Sarusajai Stadium here after another person traveling and staying with them was detected with the virus two days back.

They have now been shifted to MMC Hospital here for further treatment.

All four patients of Nalbari are from Uttar Pradesh and had come to the state from the Tablighi Jamaat last month.

The South Salmara patient has been detected at Hatsingimari civil hospital.

Earlier, 16 people were detected with COVID 19 in the state and all of them had been to the Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin Markaz last month.
