COVID-19 treatment: WHO warns against general use of Ivermectin

| @indiablooms | May 11, 2021, at 06:14 pm

New Delhi:The World Health Organization has warned against the general use of ‘ivermectin’ for treatment of Covid-19 patients.

Dr Soumya Swaminathan, WHO chief scientist, tweeted: " Safety and efficacy are important when using any drug for a new indication. @WHO recommends against the use of ivermectin for #COVID19 except within clinical trials."

She made the comment at a time when the Goa government approved use of 'ivermectin' as preventive treatment for all adults against the SARS-CoV2 virus that causes the COVID-19 disease.

Goa Health Minister Vishwajit P Rane earlier tweeted: " Patients will be treated with Ivermectin 12mg for a period of 5 days. Expert panels from the UK, Italy, Spain and Japan, found a large, statistically significant reduction in mortality, time to recovery and viral clearance in Covid-19 patients treated with Ivermectin."
