Patna, Nov 29 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): Bihar will set up at least nine trauma centres along the major national highways within a year to provide immediate medical treatment to road accident victims, which may help to save lives in the process.

An announcement to this effect was made by Bihar health minister Mangal Pandey in the Bihar Legislative Council on Tuesday.

The minister said the state government has already signed an MoU with the Centre for setting up six trauma centres and work is in progress.

The minister also cited a recent study conducted by the surgery department of the Patna Medical College and Hospital which stated that about 80 percent of road accident victims lost their lives for want of quick access to a hospital whereas the remaining 12 percent died owing to delay in having required medical treatment.
