Assam flood : Over 3.63 lakh people of 21 districts affected, two children drowned in Barpeta and Morigaon

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, two children one each from Barpeta and Morigaon district drowned in flood waters.

Over 3.63 lakh people including 70,544 children of 21 districts – Barpeta, Biswanath, Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup, Karbi Anglong West, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, South Salmara, Tinsukia, are affected in the current spate of flood.

Nearly 1.30 lakh are affected alone in Lakhimpur district followed by 65,00 people in Majuli, 41,000 people in Darrang, 24,000 people in Biswanath, 17,700 people in Sivasagar, 13,300 people in Jorhat, 11,100 people in Dibrugarh, 10,700 people in Golaghat, 8,100 people in Nagaon district.

950 villages under 50 revenue circles are now reeling under water and the flood waters of Brahmaputra river and its tributaries have submerged 30,333 hectares of crop lands.

The water levels of Brahmaputra river and its tributaries are continuously rising following torrential rains and are flowing above danger level mark in many places in the state.

According to the ASDMA, the flood waters on Monday had damaged 13 roads in Barpeta, Darrang, Golaghat, Morigaon, Nagaon, Sivasagar districts.
