Anyone above 18 years can walk in at nearest centre for CoWIN registration, vaccination: Govt

New Delhi/IBNS: The Union Health Ministry on Tuesday informed that anyone over the age of 18 can walk into the nearest vaccination centre to get registered on the CoWIN digital platform and then get inoculated against COVID-19.

From now on, pre-registration for vaccination through online registration and prior booking of appointment is not mandatory to avail vaccination.

The government said it seeks to increase the pace of vaccinations and tackle the 'vaccine hesitancy' after been blamed for the slow rollout of vaccines in parts of the country, including rural areas.

The government has already opened up walk-in vaccinations for people over 18.

Meanwhile, the cumulative COVID Vaccination Coverage in India crossed 26 crores, as per the 7 pm provisional report on Tuesday.

About 13,13,438 vaccine doses were administered as the first dose and 54,375 vaccine doses given as the second dose in the age group 18-44 years on today.

Bihar, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have administered more than 10 lakh beneficiaries of the age group 18-44 years for the first dose of COVID vaccine.
