West Bengal: FM Amit Mitra presents Rs 2, 55, 677 crore budget for FY 2020-21

Kolkata/UNI:  West Bengal Finance Minister Dr Amit Mitra on Monday placed a Rs 2, 55, 677 crore budget for the year 2020-21 and announced a slew of new welfare schemes.

In the Budget, Dr Mitra announced Government waived agriculture income tax for the tea garden workers.

He said, "Industrial growth rate in Bengal stands at 3.1%, while GDP growth rate in Bengal is 10.4% (double of national rate).

Dr Mitra in his budget speech said, “Our budget focuses on job creation. Jobless-growth does not make any sense.”

He said unemployment rate in Bengal was reduced by 40%.

Dr Mitra also announced amnesty schemes for businessmen and traders.

" Cha Sundari Scheme - State government will build houses for permanent tea garden workers who are homeless.

Karmasathi scheme- One lakh unemployed youth per year will get jobs; loans worth Rs 2 lakh crore will be given.

Joy Johar scheme- Adibasi people above the age of 60 who are not beneficiaries of any other pension schemes, will get a pension of Rs 1000 every month.

Bandhu scheme- SC category people above the age of 60 who are not beneficiaries of any other pension schemes, will get a pension of Rs 1000 every month," Dr Mitra stated.

Dr Mitra introduced a new scheme called ‘Jai Johar’. Under this new scheme, people above 60 years of age who belong to Scheduled Tribe community and are not covered under any other pension scheme, will be given a monthly pension of Rs 1000.

He also introduced another scheme called ‘Bandhu Prakalpa’. Under this novel scheme, people above 60 years of age, who belong to Scheduled Caste community and are not covered under any other pension scheme, will be given a monthly pension of Rs 1000.

Bringing relief to farmers of tea gardens, the state government proposed to waive the Agricultural Income Tax to the tea gardens for the next two financial years 2020-21 and 2021-22.
