Sensex up over 200 points

Mumbai/UNI: The BSE Sensex on Wednesday surged 286 pts at 54,604.54 in the opening session as buying was seen across the board.

The Nifty rose by 101.03 pts at 16,360.60.

The Sensex registered days high and low at 54,669.46 and 54,409 pts respectively.

The Nifty registered days high and low at 16,369.40 and 16,278.40 pts respectively.

The Mid cap moved up 0.59 pc and Small Cap by 0.80 pc. In 30 scrips, 24 advanced, 5 declined and 1 remained unchanged.

The gainers were Bharti Airtel by 1.72 pc to Rs 719.75, Bajaj finance by 1.44 pc to Rs 5920.95, Sun Pharma by 1.34 pc to Rs 904 and Dr Reddy's Lab by 1.11 pc to Rs 3947.50.

The losers were Powergrid by 1.01 pc to Rs 236.30, NTPC by 0.90 pc to Rs 149.10, Tata Steel by 0.64 pc to Rs 1180.70 and SBI by 0.24 pc to Rs 466.25.
