SAIL Chairman awarded 'CEO of the Year' at Platts

Mumbai, May 26 (IBNS): Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Chairman C S Verma was recently adjudged as the 'CEO of the Year' at the 2014 Platts Global Metals Awards.

According to SAIL, Verma is the first CEO from India to have been conferred with this honour which was given at a ceremony held in London on May 21.

The nominees for the awards were industry leaders from 19 countries.

The award is in recognition of a comprehensive leadership style demonstrated by Verma that has placed SAIL on the path of robust growth, overcoming challenges such as  price volatility and increased competition, the officials informed.

The judges lauded Verma for improving the company's operational performance while also demonstrating a strong commitment to human resource development and corporate social responsibility.

Verma in his acceptance speech, dedicated this global award to the one lakh workforce of SAIL who make the company proud on account of their commitment, talent and passion, he said.

"Chandra Shekhar Verma and other winners have navigated a challenging financial environment, and their accomplishments are a clear indication that the metals sector is poised for growth in the coming years," said Larry Neal, President of Platts.

Part of Mc Graw Hill Financial, the London-based Platts is a global provider of information on energy, petrochemicals, metals and agriculture sectors as well as benchmark price movements for a range of commodities.
