Mumbai/IBNS: The Indian currency edged higher on Thursday, with the rupee gaining 9 paise against the US dollar, according to media reports.

The rupee opened at 93.28 per US dollar, compared to its previous close of 93.37.

Gains capped by dollar demand

However, the upside remained limited due to sustained demand for the US dollar amid hopes of a ceasefire between the United States and Iran.

Equity markets open strong

The BSE Sensex surged over 500 points, while the NSE Nifty 50 opened near the 24,390 mark, reflecting strong investor sentiment in early trade.

Oil prices support sentiment

Crude oil prices slipping below $95 per barrel added to the positive momentum, supported by multiple favourable global and domestic cues.
