Reliance’s big clean energy push! Mukesh Ambani-led firm in talks with CATL for battery tech

| @indiablooms | May 19, 2026, at 01:27 pm

Mumbai/IBNS: Reliance Industries is reportedly in talks with Chinese battery giant CATL and other global suppliers to procure components for battery energy storage systems as part of its clean energy expansion plans.

According to reports, the move could help Reliance navigate China’s technology restrictions, which had earlier limited the conglomerate’s access to critical lithium-ion battery manufacturing technology.

Reliance and CATL had previously explored a possible technology transfer arrangement that could have enabled the Indian conglomerate to manufacture battery cells domestically using CATL’s proprietary technology.

Mukesh Ambani, chairman of Reliance Industries, has been aggressively pushing the group’s renewable energy ambitions, aiming to position the company at the forefront of India’s clean energy transition.

The company’s Jamnagar energy storage complex is expected to play a key role in these plans.

“Our company evaluates various opportunities on an ongoing basis,” a Reliance spokesperson was quoted as saying by Economic Times.
