Rail Budget: Indian Railways bats for reorganization of Railway Board

| | Feb 25, 2016, at 08:46 pm
New Delhi, Feb 25 (IBNS): Railways Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu while presenting the Railway Budget 2016-17 in Parliament on Thursday announced the Structural Interventions in Railways.

Railway Minister said that a departmental orientation, absence of cross-functional collaboration and lack of business focus have held back Bhartiya Rail from realizing the commanding heights that it is capable of achieving.

The solution to this lies in reorienting the working of the organization towards a common corporate objective.

For this purpose, Railway Minister proposed to reorganize the Railway Board along business lines and suitably empower Chairman, Railway Board to lead the organization effectively.

Minister added that as a first step, cross functional directorates will be set up within the Railway Board to focus on areas like non-fare revenues, speed enhancement, motive power and information technology.

Indian Railway will explore the possibility of unifying cadres for fresh recruitment of officers. Indian Railway will also strengthen the PPP cell to improve ease of doing business with Indian Railway.
