Rabi crops sowing crosses 590 lakh hectares

New Delhi, Jan 28 (IBNS): Preliminary reports reveal that the total area under Rabi crop cultivation is 591.51 lakh hectares in 2015-16, which is below the previous year's figure of 609.31 lakh hectares.
A release from the central ministry of agriculture has stated that preliminary reports from the various Indian states show that the total area under Rabi crops in 2015-16 stands at 591.51 lakh hectares as of Jan 28.  
 
In 2015-16, wheat has been sown/transplanted in 292.52 lakh hectares, pulses in 139.08 lakh hectares, coarse cereals in 60.08 lakh hectares. Area sown under oilseeds is 77.43 lakh hectares and rice is 22.41 lakh hectares. 
 
In 2014-15, wheat has been sown in 305.94 lakh hectares, pulses in 143.01 lakh hectares, coarse cereals in 56.76 lakh hectares, oilseeds in 79.51 lakh hectares and rice in 24.08 lakh hectares, which indicates Rabi crop cultivation covered a total area of 609.31 lakh hectares.
