PM Modi has a clear vision about how AI will benefit India: Google CEO Sundar Pichai

New Delhi/IBNS: Google CEO Sundar Pichai has lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a three-day tour to the United States, for his "clear vision" about how Artificial Intelligence will benefit India.

Speaking to ANI, Pichai said, "He (Modi) is really thinking about how AI can transform India in a way that benefits the people of India. He challenged us to think about applications in healthcare, education, agriculture and he is also thinking about the infrastructure of India."

"We are robustly investing in AI in India and we look forward to doing more."

Pichai added, "He has always challenged all of us to do more for India and now he is asking us to do the same with AI. He has a clear vision both in terms of the opportunity that AI will create but he wants to make sure ultimately AI is there to benefit the people of India. And he has a clear vision that it should all be in the service of people of India. He is challenging us to do more."

The Indian Prime Minister is in the US primarily for the Quad Summit and the Summit of the Future.

He held meetings with several world leaders including US President Joe Biden and also addressed the Indian diaspora.

On Modi's Digital India push, the Google CEO said, "The Prime Minister has been focussed on transforming India. It is Digital India vision. He pushed us to continue to make in India, design in India."

Modi addresses tech industry in New York

At an event with the technology industry leaders in New York, Modi highlighted the economic transformation happening in India, particularly in electronics and information technology manufacturing, semiconductors, biotech and green development.

He stated that his government was committed to making India a global hub of semiconductor manufacturing.

He also dwelt on India’s BIO E3 policy to develop India into a biotech powerhouse. On AI, he noted that India’s policy is to promote AI for All, underpinned by its ethical and responsible use.

The CEOs expressed their strong interest in investing and collaborating with India.

India's growing prominence as a global technology hub, driven by its innovation-friendly policies and flourishing market opportunities, got much appreciation from the tech-leaders.

They also agreed that investing in startups would be a synergistic opportunity to innovate and develop newer technologies in India.
