No extension of ITR filing deadline: Revenue Secretary Tarun Bajaj

New Delhi/IBNS: The government has no plan to extend the deadline for ITR filing and the filing process is going on smoothly, Revenue Secretary,  Revenue Secretary Tarun Bajaj said Friday in a press conference.

As of 3 pm on Thursday, a total of 5.62 crores ITRs were filed while more than 20 lakh ITRs were filed today itself, he said.

This year more ITRs have been filed this year compared to last year, he said.

Bajaj added that they expect another at least 20-25 lakh returns to come by 12 at night.

"Had there been more than 1 crore ITR to be filed there might be a case for extension for ITR filing deadline. So, there is absolutely no proposal to extend the ITR filing date. I hope through this message the other people also file their returns," said Bajaj.

However, many taxpayers have flagged the issues they have been facing while filing the returns.

Twitter is flooded with taxpayers airing grievances about not being able to access the e-filing portal and hashtag, #Extend_Due_Date_Immediately trended throughout the day on the social media platform.
