LPG price shock from June 1! Commercial cylinder rates hiked again
Mumbai/IBNS: Restaurants, hotels, caterers and small businesses are set to face higher operating costs after commercial LPG cylinder prices were hiked once again in the latest revision that came into effect on June 1, media reports said.
Commercial LPG Rates Increased
The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi has been increased by Rs. 42, taking the retail selling price to Rs. 3,113.50.
In Kolkata, the hike is steeper. The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has gone up by Rs. 53.50, pushing the retail rate to Rs. 3,255.50.
Meanwhile, the price of 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders has been raised by Rs. 11.
Relief For Households
In a relief for households, domestic LPG cylinder prices have been left unchanged.
Why The Hike Matters
Commercial LPG cylinders are widely used by restaurants, eateries, hotels, caterers and various small businesses.
Any increase in their prices often translates into higher operational expenses, which can eventually lead to increased costs for consumers.
Global Factors At Play
The latest revision comes amid volatility in global energy markets and rising crude oil prices, driven in part by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
LPG prices in India are revised periodically based on international fuel prices, exchange-rate movements and other market factors.
Industry stakeholders have expressed concerns that repeated hikes in commercial LPG rates could further strain small businesses that are already grappling with rising input costs and inflationary pressures.
