Kolkata: Indian stationery major Linc Limited has officially launched its joint venture with Japan’s Mitsubishi Pencil Co., Ltd., forming UNI LINC India Private Limited, a new entity aimed at transforming the country’s writing instruments market, according to a press release.

With a capital investment of ₹200 million, the venture is 51% owned by Mitsubishi Pencil and 49% by Linc Limited.

The partnership combines Linc’s extensive distribution network and strong brand presence with Mitsubishi Pencil’s technological expertise and global reputation under the Uni brand.

The venture will manufacture and market writing instruments that bring together Japanese precision and Indian affordability.

Production at UNI LINC India’s Gujarat facility began in September 2025, focusing initially on ballpoint pens tailored for Indian consumers.

The company plans to expand its product portfolio over time to include more value-added writing tools, catering to both domestic and international markets.

Speaking at the launch, Aloke Jalan, Whole-time Director of Linc Limited, said: “At Linc, we have always believed in inspiring creativity and self-expression through quality writing instruments. Our joint venture with Mitsubishi Pencil Co., Ltd. is not just a business collaboration—it is a convergence of shared values and a shared vision.

"With UNI Linc India Pvt Ltd, we aim to bring global-quality products tailored to the Indian consumer at accessible price points, while also creating avenues for India to become a key contributor to the international writing instruments market. This is a proud milestone for Linc, and we look forward to shaping the future of writing together with our partner.”

The facility was formally inaugurated on October 1 in the presence of senior executives from both companies.

The event marked the operational launch of the venture and a commitment to long-term collaboration focused on innovation, sustainability, and accessibility.

The joint venture aligns with Mitsubishi Pencil’s Long-Term Vision 2036 to become “the world’s most expressive innovation company,” and with Linc’s mission to make high-quality writing tools accessible to all.

UNI LINC India aims to position itself as a strategic hub for writing instrument production and distribution across India and other global markets, supporting the growth of the country’s manufacturing ecosystem.
