Jet Airways Issue: Plea in Delhi HC to compensate hassled passengers

| @indiablooms | Apr 24, 2019, at 05:41 pm

New Delhi, Apr 24 (UNI) Delhi High Court on Wednesday adjourned for May 1 hearing in a plea seeking direction from Ministry of Civil Aviation and Directorate General of Civil Aviation to ensure refund or alternate travel arrangements for passengers who had booked tickets with Jet Airways, which suspended its operations last week.

Activist Bejon Kumar has filed a plea before the HC that the sudden suspension of air services of Jet Airways had caused severe hardships for passengers.

'More than 1,000 scheduled flights had been cancelled by Jet Airways and the respondents are sitting idle and leaving the common passenger to their fate…. Additionally, the passengers have to not only purchase alternative tickets at highly exorbitant cost but also go through a lot of anxiety and mental agony,' Mr Kumar submitted.

He requested the court to direct the DGCA and Ministry of Civil Aviation for adoption of prompt redressal mechanism for all affected passengers to access full refund of the air tickets with reasonable compensation or arrange alternative mode of travel for passengers to reach their destination as an emergency exercise.

A division bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice AJ Bhambhani said the plea was a publicity stunt as it was released to the press before it was heard by the court and adjourned it for May 1 for hearing.
