Jaitely increases 48% fund allocation for NE development

Guwahati, Feb 1 (IBNS) : Even not a single special project announced for the North East India in the Union Budget 2017-18, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely increasing overall fund allocation to the region by 48% in his fourth budget against the previous budget.

A total of Rs 43,244.64 crore was allocated in the Union Budget 2017-18 for the development of North East India, which was presented by the Union Finance Minsiter Arun Jaitely on Wednesday.

The fund was allocated to various ministries and departments, specialy to develop the north eastern region.

Total fund allocation increased at around Rs 14,000 crore against the previous budget.


According to the budget, highest allocation made in education sector by Rs 6307.27 crore, while Rs 5765 crore to Minsitry of Road Transport and Highways, Rs 5461.73 crore to Department of Rural Development, Rs 2160.55 crore to Ministry of Women Child Development, Rs 1616.60 to Ministry of Power, Rs 3625.44 crore to Department of Health and Family Welfare, Rs 4116.60 crore to Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmer’s Welfare, Rs 1969.83 crore to Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Rs 1510.62 crore to Department of Telecomunications.

On the other hand, the Union Finance Minister also allocated Rs 1116.67 crore to the DoNER ministry and Rs 909.27 crore to promote the industry in the region.
