India's coal production jumps 14.49% to 84.63 MT in June

New Delhi: The country's coal production surged by 14.49% to 84.63 million tonnes (MT) in June, up from 73.92 MT in the same period last fiscal year, according to the provisional government data.

Coal India Ltd. (CIL) alone produced 63.10 MT, marking an 8.87% increase year-on-year, as reported by the coal ministry.

India's coal dispatch in June reached 85.76 MT, showing a 10.15% rise compared to the previous year. Additionally, as of June 30, coal companies held a stockpile of 95.02 MT.

"This surge reflects an impressive annual growth rate of 41.68 percent underscoring the robust performance and efficiency of the coal sector.

Concurrently, the coal stock at thermal power plants (TPP) marked a notable increase to 46.70 MT (Provisional) on the same date, with an annual growth rate of 30.15 per cent," it added.

Coal India accounts for over 80 per cent of domestic coal output.
