Kolkata, Nov 23 (IBNS): ICICI Academy for Skills (ICICI Academy), an institute set up by the ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth (ICICI Foundation) to create sustainable livelihood for the youth, announced the launch of its all-women center at Madhyamgram, near Kolkata.
With this, ICICI Academy now has 10 centers exclusively dedicated to impart vocational training to underprivileged women. This center offers a course with duration of 12 weeks in Retail Sales for women who are at least class X pass outs. It will train 880 women annually.

Chanda Kochhar, MD & CEO, ICICI Bank said: "India has a unique advantage in the form of its demographic dividend. However, translating the demographic dividend into growth and prosperity requires job creation as well as enabling the youth to acquire the skills required to benefit from employment opportunities. Through the 'ICICI Academy for Skills', we are making a significant contribution towards empowering underprivileged youth including women. I believe that these new centres, which are exclusively for women, will enable many young women to get access to vocational skills and become important stakeholders in India's growth story."

The other all-women centres of ICICI Academy are situated in New Delhi, Zirakpur, Cochin, Mysore, Trichy, Vijayawada, Lucknow, Nagpur and Bhubaneswar.

Since its inception in October 2013, ICICI Academy has set up a total of 21 centres across the country to provide relevant and practical training to the underprivileged youth in various disciplines including electrical and home appliance repair, central air conditioning, selling skills, office administration and web designing. The students are also trained in specific life skills such as communication, etiquette and grooming which help them adapt to an organised work environment.

It has trained and successfully placed around 20,000 youth in various areas like Electrical & Home Appliance Repair, Refrigeration & AC Repair, Pumps & Motor Repair, Central Air Conditioning, Selling Skills, Office Administration, Web Designing, Retail Café Operations, Paint Application Techniques, Tractor Mechanic, Lab Assistant at Diagnostic Centres, Two & Three Wheeler Service Technician and Retail Sales.
