Dubai firm threatens to move court against Maharashtra govt over a multi-billion dollar project
Dubai/Mumbai/IBNS: A Dubai firm has threatened to take a legal step against the Maharashtra government for delaying a multi-billion dollar project which is aimed to redevelop Dharavi, a slum area in the Mumbai city of India with a population of about 700,000 people, Gulf News reported.
Seclink Technologies Corporation (STC), a Dubai-based consortium, in March 2019 emerged as the top bidder for the Dharavi redevelopment project which has been estimated to cost Dh14 billion.
Though a year has been passed since getting the deal, the STC is still waiting for an official Letter of Award (LoA) which is required to begin work for the project.
Speaking on the matter, STC chairman and managing director, N. Shah, told Gulf News, "We have been writing to the state-run Dharavi Redevelopment Project Authority (DRPA) for more than seven months but they are yet to issue us the letter which officially awards us the contract."
"Now we have no choice but to move court and seek Dh1.2 billion in compensation from the Maharashtra government to cover our losses," he added.
Shah, who has also written to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking his intervention, further told the media, "We have to set aside $4 billion (Dh13.5 billion) towards the bank guarantee for the project."
Dharavi, which is located in the financial capital of India, is one of the largest slums in the world.
