New Delhi: The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) has made a big move towards bolstering India's self-reliance in the defence sector by approving seven new projects under the Technology Development Fund (TDF) scheme, media reported.

This initiative is designed to promote innovation and technological progress within the country, particularly among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and start-ups, which are essential to the defence and aerospace sectors, reported Financial Express.

The TDF scheme is a key element of DRDO’s efforts to achieve Aatmanirbharta, or self-reliance, in defence technology.

By granting these projects to private industries, DRDO not only stimulates the development of advanced technologies but also enhances the military industrial ecosystem in India.

The participation of MSMEs and start-ups in these projects highlights the focus on nurturing domestic talent and resources, ensuring that the defence sector benefits from the flexibility and innovation of smaller enterprises.

Indigenous Scenario and Sensor Simulation Toolkit has been awarded to Oxygen 2 Innovation Pvt Ltd, Noida. This toolkit for pilot simulator training offers realistic scenarios for comprehensive mission planning and large force engagements. As a domestically developed tool, it will significantly enhance pilot training and operational readiness.

Underwater Launched Unmanned Aerial Vehicle awarded to Sagar Defence Engineering Pvt Ltd, Pune. A multifaceted unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) capable of underwater deployment for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) and Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA). This initiative aims to revolutionize marine battlefield equipment.

Long-Range Remotely Operated Vehicles for Detection & Neutralisation to IROV Technologies Pvt Limited, Kochi. The company will create dual-use remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) that can detect, classify, locate, and neutralize underwater objects, ensuring the protection of key assets from operational threats. These ROVs will improve underwater security and boost operational efficiency.

Development of Ice Detection Sensor for Aircraft to Craftlogic Labs Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru. The company will create sensors to detect in-flight icing conditions, triggering the aircraft's anti-icing mechanisms. This technology is essential for improving flight safety and performance in adverse weather conditions.

Development of Radar Signal Processor with Active Antenna Array Simulator to Data Pattern (India) Limited, Chennai. They will develop a radar signal processor combined with an active antenna array simulator. This system will enable the testing and evaluation of multiple short-range aerial weapon systems, acting as a foundational component for larger radar systems.

Development of Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System-based Timing Acquisition & Dissemination System to Accord Software & Systems Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru.

The company aims to localise timing acquisition and dissemination systems by leveraging the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS).

This project seeks to develop a customizable and adaptable timing system suited to specific range needs, thereby advancing the adoption of indigenous satellite technology.

Development of Graphene-Based Smart & E-textiles for Multifunctional Wearable Applications to Alohatech Private Limited, Coimbatore. The company will develop conductive yarn and fabric manufacturing processes utilizing graphene nanomaterials and conductive inks.

This initiative aims to produce advanced nanocomposite materials-based E-textiles suitable for practical clothing applications.

The project underscores the potential of integrating cutting-edge materials into wearable technology for defense purposes.
