Demonetisation effect: People used barter system to collect essential commodity along Assam-Nagaland border

Guwahati, Nov 15 (IBNS): Due to shortage of legal tenders in banks, ATM's following Centre's decision of demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes people had used barter system to collect essential commodity in several huts along Assam-Nagaland border.

People of several villages in Charaideo district of Assam and several Nagaland villagers had used the barter system in bordering huts to collect essential commodity, vegetables due to shortage of low legal tenders.

"Following the centre's decision of demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, there are shortage of low currency notes. The villagers of the bordering areas faced huge financial crisis in recent days. Due to currency crunch situation the villagers had used barter system in huts," a local person of Namsa village in Nagaland's Mon district said.

The local villagers of bordering areas said that the banking system in the remote areas are so poor and so people would not able to collect legal currency easily.

Not only the villagers of Assam-Nagaland bordering areas, people of several remote areas of the region faced similar situation following scraping of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.
