Mumbai/IBNS: With the country celebrating major harvest festivals such as Makar Sankranti, Lohri, Pongal and Bihu on January 14 and 15, many people are checking whether bank services will be available during these days.

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar, banks will remain closed in several states on January 14 and 15 due to these regional festivals.

Banks will be shut in a few eastern and northeastern states on January 14, while closures will be observed in several southern states and metro cities on January 15.

State-wise bank holidays

  • January 14: Gujarat, Odisha, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh
  • January 15: Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra

Other bank holidays in January

  • January 16: Banks in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh will remain closed on the occasion of Thiruvalluvar Day.
  • January 17: Banks in Tamil Nadu will remain closed for Uzhavar Thirunal.
  • January 23: Banks will remain closed in West Bengal and Odisha on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary. Saraswati Puja also falls on this day.
  • January 26: Banks will remain closed across all states and Union Territories on the occasion of Republic Day.
