Alstom Foundation sets up a model 'Eco Village' in West Bengal

Kolkata, Feb 3 (IBNS) Alstom on Tuesday inaugurated an Eco Village in Moldanga in Burdwan district of West Bengal.

Saumitra Mohan, District Magistrate and Collector, Bardhaman, Dominique Jaoul, Secretary, Alstom Foundation, P.V. Narayanan, Country CSR Head, Alstom India  and Rajib Ghosh, Director of Alstom Durgapur unit were present at the occasion.

Alstom Foundation has adopted Moldanga village in association with Swami Vivekananda Vani Prachar Samiti to usher in balanced and all-round development.

This initiative is an extension of Alstom’s CSR activities and is in line with the company’s focus on sustainable development for transforming villages into Ecovillages.

Moldanga has a population of around 47 families, which belong to the Santhal tribe and is located close to Alstom’s Durgapur manufacturing unit.


Speaking on the occasion, Rathin Basu, Country President, Alstom India & South Asia said, “The adoption of Moldanga is another step towards strengthening Alstomcommitment to India and work towards the socio-economic upliftment of its people by creating self-sustaining models that are aligned to the work culture of that area. Our CSR policy reflects our corporate philosophy of living and working together for the common good and we aim to adopt other villages in different parts of the country. We believe that we should create pride in the minds of all those who associate with us in this noble cause. Alstom encourages employees to actively participate in the CSR activities. In the success of Moldanga project too, our employees at Durgapur have shown commendable dedication and commitment."
