‘Today is your last working day’: Oracle begins fresh round of layoffs
Oracle has begun a fresh round of layoffs, with employees receiving early-morning emails informing them that their positions had been eliminated as part of a broader organisational restructuring, according to media reports.
The latest round of job cuts reportedly began on Monday, although the exact number of employees affected remains unclear.
“After careful consideration of Oracle's current business needs, we have made the decision to eliminate your role as part of a broader organizational change,” copies of layoff notification emails reviewed by Business Insider stated. “As a result, today is your last working day.”
The planned cuts have reached double-digit percentages on some teams, according to an internal document cited by Business Insider.
The latest layoffs come after Oracle reported a significant decline in its workforce over the past year.
According to Business Insider, Oracle's workforce fell by 21,000 employees between May 2025 and May 2026, based on the company's latest filing.
Oracle employed around 141,000 people worldwide as of May 31, 2026, according to the filing.
Compared with the figures reported in its 2025 filing, the company had shed around 9,000 jobs in the US and 12,000 internationally, Business Insider reported.
The job cuts come despite strong financial performance, particularly in Oracle's cloud business.
In June, Oracle reported that total quarterly revenue increased 21% to $19.2 billion, reflecting strong demand for its cloud technology and applications.
Cloud revenue, comprising Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS), rose 47% to $9.9 billion. Cloud Infrastructure revenue surged 93%, while Cloud Applications revenue increased 10%.
Software revenue declined 2% to $6.8 billion as customers continued to migrate from on-premises software to the cloud. Services revenue stood at $1.5 billion, up 13%, while hardware revenue increased 9% to $900 million.
Oracle reported fourth-quarter GAAP operating income of $6.1 billion, up 20%, while non-GAAP operating income rose 22% to a record $8.6 billion, supported by strong revenue growth and operating-efficiency measures implemented during the quarter.
GAAP net income attributable to common shareholders rose 23% to $4.2 billion, while non-GAAP net income increased 26% to $6.2 billion.
Fourth-quarter GAAP earnings per share increased 21% to $1.45, while non-GAAP earnings per share rose 24% to $2.11.
Meanwhile, several employees, who have been laid off in the latest round, posted their reactions on Linkedln.
One of them, who has been identified as Rich Choi, wrote: "Well, all good things come to end. I was one of the thousands who got laid off by Oracle today. I still thoroughly enjoyed my time at Oracle. Really a great group of people to work with. If anyone needs a seasoned PM in their org, please drop me a line."
Another person, whose name has been identified by his account as Aurelius Figueredo, wrote: "And so it ends. After 33 years starting as a clueless intern to being let go this morning. I have no regrets. I had a wonderful rodeo at Oracle. So what next? Early retire or look for the next role? Who knows?"
