New Delhi, Sep 20 (IBNS): The Supreme Court, on Wednesday, awarded compensation for litigation cost to 39 flat buyers of Unitech's Vistas Project in Gurugram, according to media reports.

Each flat buyer is to receive Rs 80,000 towards cost of litigation.

According to media reports, the flat buyers were paid the principal sum and 14 per cent interest by Unitech following an earlier order by the apex court.

Unitech was supposed to hand over the Gurugram Vistas Project flats in 2012, media reported.

After Unitech failed to deliver, the disgruntled buyers approached the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.

NCDRC ordered Unitech to pay the principal with an interest of 18 per cent, media reported.

Unitech approached the SC against the consumer forum's order.

Meanwhile, in April this year,  promoters Sanjay Chandra and Ajay Chandra were arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police, reports said.

The apex court last Friday refused to grant interim bail to the jailed promoters Sanjay Chandra and Ajay Chandra and said their pleas will beconsidered only after the data of homebuyers seeking refund is collated. media reported.
