Kedarnath, Nov 7 (IBNS): JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal on Wednesday performed the ground-breaking ceremony to commence reconstruction of Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi at Kedarpuri in Uttrakhand.

This auspicious ceremony marked the first step of JSW Group’s commitment to reconstruct and restore the Adi Shankaracharya Kutir which was ravaged by flash floods in 2013.

JSW Group will also set-up a museum to provide pilgrims a glimpse into the life of Adi Shankaracharya.

The reconstruction of the Samadhi and the Museum is expected to be completed by 2020.

Announcing the commencement of the samadhi reconstruction project, Sajjan Jindal, Chairman - JSW Group said, “We are grateful to Lord Shiva for giving us an opportunity to reconstruct Shri Adi Shankaracharya’s samadhi at Kedarpuri as well as establish the museum based on his life. The samadhi & the museum will be a symbol of Shankaracharya-ji’s life & teachings as an example for all of us to follow. Through this project, JSW Group is committed to creating a Better Everyday for pilgrims visiting Kedarnath.”

In 2017, JSW Group signed a MOU with Government of Uttarakhand towards the reconstruction and restoration of Kedarnath. According to this MOU, JSW Group has committed to the reconstruction and restoration of the Adi Shankaracharya Kutir along with a museum, Ghats on River Saraswati and part reconstruction of the Teerth Purohit (Priests) houses and other infrastructural facilities related to the houses in Kedarpuri.

Kedarnath is located in the Himalayas, approximately 11,000 feet above sea level in the Rudraprayag District of Uttarakhand State. Kedarnath is one of the Chardham’s and is one of the holiest shrines in India.

Adi Shankaracharya, the renowned Indian philosopher and theologian, is believed to have died at Kedarnath in 8th century CE.

The Samadhi at Kedarpuri will be a tribute to Adi Shankaracharya’s life and his contribution to society.

It will have a spiral geometry design with ramps leading to the statue of Shri Adi Shankarachrya at the centre.

The new layout has been carefully designed by JSW Group team to place the samadhi at an important spatial position vis-à-vis the main temple.

The ramps leading up to the sculpture are meant to represent the journey and the many phases of life, while the water spiral at the center signifies the purification of the soul.
