India's crude palm production rose 13 pc in 2019-20, Andhra remains leading producer

New Delhi/IBNS: India's production of crude oil palm (CPO) increased 13 percent in the financial year 2020-21 to 2,88,056 metric tons compared to 2,54, 794 metric tons in 2019-20 with Andhra Pradesh being the leading producer, according to government data.

Andhra Pradesh accounted for 83.32 percent of the total oil palm production in 2020-21 at 2,40,016 metric tons.

The state's oil palm yield in 2019-20 stood at 2,08,359.

Andhra Pradesh produced 1,90,999 metric tons in 2016-17, 2,34,696 metric tons in 2017-18, 2,32 938 metric tons in 2018-19.

As per ICAR-IIOPR, Oil Palm requires less water compared to crops like rice, banana and sugarcane for its optimum cultivation.

Under the National Mission on Edible Oil-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP), emphasis has been given to promote micro irrigation and water conservation in oil palm for efficient water management and judicious use of water.

Oil Palm is not covered under One District One Product (ODOP) scheme.
